JUNE MEETING REPORT: Great Night with Chad Brown
NFL career linebacker (Steelers, Patriots, Seahawks) and herp business-owner, Chad Brown was our special guest this past June. He spoke on the caging and care of green tree monitors and red mountain rat snakes. He also spent time meeting with CVHS members and guests. Great turnout, and thank you to everyone who participated in our monthly raffle.

SnakebytesTV star, and owner of BHB Reptiles, Brian Barczyk was our special guest speaker for the month of May.
Barczyk drew a record crowd, and he spent the evening speaking on his 20 years in the reptile industry. He also stayed

Carl Person, Ph.D candidate from Loma Linda University, joined us on March 23 to talk to CVHS about snake venom and its applications to modern medicine
90 members and guests attended this meeting and enjoyed Carl's presentation

On Saturday, February 9, CVHS had the pleasure of welcoming special guest author, teacher, field herper, keeper, photographer, Gerold Merker.
Gerold gave a great presentation on his adventures field herping the state of Texas, and he shared his passion for Lampropeltis alterna, the gray-banded kingsnake.

CVHS members and friends had a great time at our 1st annual Fun Fall BBQ at GBU Enterprises. Attendees enjoyed lots of great food, participated in our raffle, and visited with the CVHS crowd. Definitely something we should repeat, next year! Thank you to all who attended.

Professional herp photographer Michael Kern was our guest for our September meeting. He gave a great presentation on his work and gave tips on photographing reptiles and amphibians. Kern brought his prints and donated one to our monthly raffle.

Fourth Jr. Reptile Club Meeting a HUGE hit!

What a great crowd! Jr. Reptile Club rocks!
Students in our Jr. Reptile Club program gathered after school, this past month, for their fourth meeting. Volunteers from Central Valley Herpetological Society brought various items to share and display. Students were treated to a presentation by Loren Prins on Snakes of California.
This marks the first meeting of the 2012/2012 school year. The turnout was a huge success, and the kids are already excited about the October Jr. Reptile Club meeting. Thank you to everyone that participated!

Mike Cardwell's presentation on Crotalus oreganus research
On August 18, toxicologist Mike Cardwell gave a great presentation on some of his studies with Northern Pacific Rattlesnakes. Cardwell was our very special guest for the August meeting, and everyone had a great time. Fun meeting!
CVHS Fundraiser Brings in Over $4,200 for USARK!

On Saturday, July 28, CVHS held a fundraiser auction to benefit USARK. Members and guests bid on a variety of pets, supplies, and more, which brought in over $4,300 for the organization.

We were honored to have welcomed Dr. Sean Bush, star of VENOM ER, for our June meeting.

The kids in the Jr. CVHS Reptile Club put on their FIRST reptile education event, this past weekend at the George Kelly Elementary school carnival. Jr. Club members hosted tables in the school cafeteria with an array of snakes, lizards, and tortoises, as well as tarantulas and scorpions!
CVHS thanks Carla, Sam AJ, Jeri, and Bobby for bringing all the critters for the kids to share with other students, parents, and teachers at the school!

The CVHS Jr. Reptile Club at George Kelly Elementary received a special visit from Save the Frogs!, last Friday.
CVHS Conservation Officer, Michael Starkey, who also serves on the advisory committee for STF, presented 'The Wild World of Frogs!'-- geared toward teaching our Jr. members about amphibian conservation. The students had a lot of fun and asked a lot of great questions.
Special thanks to Michael for doing this for our Jr. group!
